Small-Group Interpretive Tours
Most scenic tours are designed to show you the places - as quickly and efficiently as possible. We are more interested in how you see them.
We offer full day (6 to 7 hr.), seasonal tours in the red rocks of Sedona and along the coast of Maine. The landscapes are stunning; wide vistas, quiet details, open land, and the human marks of architecture, sculpture, and heritage. We meet them at a slower pace, with no more than six guests, so there is time for both the scenery and the stories that belong to these places.
Our approach grows out of professional interpretive training: the belief that a place becomes more meaningful when people are given room to notice it for themselves. We do not try to fill every moment with information. Our aim is to create the conditions for a different quality of attention.
At the heart of the day is a simple idea we call “One Little Twist…” — the possibility that a small shift in perspective can change what becomes visible.
Meet Your Hosts
We’re Case and Laurie St. Denis. We share a life together and this work, grounded in the love we have for each other, our guests and for the places we get to show them.

I (Case) am a Certified Interpretive Guide through the National Association for Interpretation. I spent years as a long-haul driver, logging more than a million safe miles. For over five years Laurie and I worked as a team in the freight-hauling business, traveling the country together and visiting more than twenty national parks and many other beautiful and historic places along the way. Those years deepened our love of nature and gave us room for our own inner exploration.
Laurie comes from a background as a Certified Professional Coder in the medical field, work that demanded precision and careful organization. She has a natural gift for hospitality and the quiet care that helps people feel at ease. While we were on the road she documented our travels through insightful photography, and many people who have seen her images said they wished they could have climbed into the truck and come along. You can see some of her work here. When she joins us on these tours she is happy to take photos of guests at scenic spots and share practical tips from her experience.
We have spent years noticing how ordinary places and objects can open a different way of seeing. Our approach is simple: keep the groups small, keep the pace gentle, and leave room for the day to unfold in its own way.
We offer these tours as something we like to do side by side: a small group, a slow day, and time to notice what is in front of us.
A Day With Us
How this differs from typical tours
Most scenic tours are built around coverage and commentary: moving from sight to sight while a guide supplies the story. The pace is efficient and the information is plentiful, yet many people finish the day having seen a great deal without feeling that much has actually reached them. Silence is scarce, and there is little room for a guest’s own noticing to develop.
Our approach is different...
We still visit beautiful and meaningful places, but we move more slowly and leave more room for direct noticing. Our role as guides is less to fill the time with information and more to create the conditions for a different quality of attention. Groups are limited to six. The experience is shared rather than private or customized. The emphasis is on pace, presence, and the possibility of noticing what usually goes unseen.
If you are looking for the fastest way to see the main sights, this may not be the tour for you.
If you want to move through beautiful places at a comfortable pace, look longer and notice more, we have a seat for you.
Who this day is for
Our tours are designed for people who value both remarkable landscapes and a more attentive way of traveling, whether they come as individuals, pairs, or small parties.
The experience is intentionally gentle in its physical demands. We travel on paved roads and make only short walks on pavement or well-maintained pathways. There is no hiking, no off-road travel, and no rough terrain.
Because so much of the day unfolds through conversation and subtle shifts in perception, we find it is most rewarding for adults and older teens who are comfortable with a reflective pace and fluent English. Young children, and guests who would need frequent translation, often find the slower rhythm harder to enjoy.
Our desire is that every guest feel the day was shaped with them in mind.
The Interpretive approach
Interpretation is the practice of helping people find personal meaning in places, objects, and stories. These tours grow out of professional training, and our approach follows this tradition.
The art of interpretation itself is ancient. Long before it became a formal discipline, people have explained the significance of landscapes, monuments, and shared histories to one another.
The modern profession took clear shape in the mid-20th century through the work of Freeman Tilden and the United States National Park Service. Tilden’s central insight was that interpretation should not merely present facts; it should relate what is being shown to the lived experience of the visitor.

Real change does not always arrive with fireworks. Most often it comes through a small shift in how we are looking.
On these tours we use human artwork, natural forms, and simple objects as mirrors. A thought-provoking, hands-on opening exercise introduces the idea in a concrete way. From there, the same spirit of attention moves with us through the landscape.
We all carry challenging situations in our personal and professional lives. You are invited to arrive with one or two of these already in mind; a decision, a relationship, a creative block, or any matter you would be willing to see with fresh eyes. Nothing needs to be spoken aloud. Simply holding the situation quietly as you move through the day allows the places and objects we encounter to serve as a living mirror.
We offer no philosophy to adopt. Just the opportunity to simply notice what is.

Sedona
(Fall/Winter/Spring)
$359 per person (All-Inclusive)
A full-day (6–7 hour) interpretive driving tour through Sedona’s red rock country.
We travel at an unhurried pace on paved roads, stopping at selected viewpoints, sculptures, and quiet places. Groups are limited to six guests. Short, comfortable walks and a sit-down lunch are included.

Coastal Maine

A full-day (6–7 hour) interpretive driving tour along the coast of Maine.
The same unhurried attention, set along a different shoreline. We will be stopping at selected harbors, overlooks, and quiet coastal places where the maritime landscape and its human stories can be met more carefully. Groups will be limited to six guests.
